Servers with Quality from TSG

Servers are one of those assets that are often overlooked.  Most likely your server has been operating with out much fuss.  Over the years your office has grown from Dumb terminals on everyones desk to Windows workstations everywhere.   You may have expanded from a single location to multiple locations.  Your server will be the heart of your operation, it might be time to pay consider a performance boost for your operations.

Now with the price of servers coming down and the functionality increasing it may be time to consider replacing that old server with modern technology.

TSG uses only top quality server equipment.  In our view, you have so much of your business in your server, that it deserves to be the best, safest, fastest machine in your shop.

We mostly use Intel and Supermicro systems.   Servers come in Pedestal and Rack mount configurations.  Here are some things to look for in a server

A Real Server has:

Dependability. Server downtime is business downtime, which means lost productivity and revenue. A real server based on Intel® Xeon™ processors provides the security and stability to help keep your business up and running. Real servers also provide security features that desktop systems do not provide. Ensure both employees and customers can get the information they need when they need it.

Value. Real servers that are complete with two Intel® Xeon™ processors help deliver total cost advantages including improved productivity and lower maintenance costs for a higher return on your IT investment. By decreasing server downtime, you are likely to incur less administrative costs of getting your server and network up and running again.

Room to Grow. As your business continues to grow, your computing demands increase. Real servers based on Intel® Xeon™ processors have the capacity to handle higher office workload demands and allow you to enhance your platform as your business needs expand. Real servers generally have more capacity than personal computers, allowing you to add more memory, hard disks, and peripherals as needed.

Performance. With a real server based on the Intel® Xeon™ processor, you can trust that your business investments are protected, you can quickly access your business data and perform quicker backups, resulting in a more efficient and productive operation.

Move your business to a real server based on the Intel® Xeon™ processor. By that we mean a robust, dual-processor, expandable computer designed to serve multiple users and run shared applications. PCs have their place — on individual workers' desks. But real servers belong in your back office, where they deliver more dependability, value, growing room, and performance to your business. Why Not Use a Fast PC as a Server?

There's more to server capability than processor speed. A real server is designed to support multiple users, carry heavy loads, and provide reliability. A real server based on powerful Intel Xeon processors provides the dependability, expandability, and total value your business needs. Does Your Business Need a Real Server?

Business Server Checklist

  • Does your business depend on customer records, supplier data, and other information stored on a central computer.
  • If key business systems went down, would your business be in trouble?
  • Does your business plan to use databases?
  • Does your business rely on e-mail or the internet?
  • Does your staff share files across networked computers?
  • Does your business have a Web site or engage in e-Commerce?
  • Are you concerned about data security?
  • Do you have multiple users trying to access the same data?

Use this checklist to find out if your business is ready for a real server based on the Intel Xeon processor. If you answer yes to at least two of these questions, consider moving to a real server based on the Intel Xeon processor designed to support multiple users, carry heavy loads, and provide reliability.

How Will a Real Server Benefit Your Business?

A real server based on the Intel Xeon processor has more of everything that's critical to your business. Learn [PDF 397KB] about the benefits of real servers and see how servers work to improve your operations.

At the End of the Day

By taking advantage of today's Intel technology -based solutions, the architecture firm can make design changes and share information in real time, access critical information more easily, and make important decisions faster based on the latest and most detailed information — saving the company time and leaving their clients satisfied.

Why would you use a UNIX server?

UNIX is a well established operating system since 1970s. It is designed for network solutions
what other operating systems well implemented.
The power of UNIX is that that: It gives the power only for you to make changes and for
those who has the rights from you on the system. In this way you don't get surprises
everyday what happened with your system.

Is this mean that UNIX can't get viruses?
UNIX has the ability to administrate from remote places which is really helpful, but in
this way there are tricks how someone can destroy it. That's why it is so important to
have a server which has set up by professionals.

  • Do you have an old server?  How can you know?

Here are some questions to ask yourself about your server.

Age:   Your server may be of a pre-Y2K vintage.   Your server has most likey been in continuous operation for 1800+ days, (4 to 5 years).  These machines are right at the age of complete financial depreciation and possibly at the brink of hardware issues.

Data Security:  Are you confident that your hard disk drives are being backed up?  Could you recover from a data disaster?  Will you have to send your machine out to be repaired or can you just slide out the bad hard disk and insert the new?  Do you have a RAID disk environment?

Accessability:  Can you save files from your PC's to your server?  Can you send and manage Faxes with your server?  Can you access your server from remote locations?  How about from Home?  Are you getting management reports emailed to you daily?

Speed:  Does your sever slow down at times?  Are there slow periods during month end?  commission processing?  report generation?
